Strength Within
by Ann Marie McGill

Before I realize, you’re crashing down
Invading my existence.
Into darkness I drown.

While I struggle to resist, I can’t escape
Your grasp so tight.
Heavy like a drape.

I must stay focused; the quicksand so thick,
The overwhelming stench.
Death can’t be quick.

I must hold on, I cannot give in.
On the edge of the cliff,
I find His strength within.

I feel the coolness, your forced release.
You are defeated.
I have God’s peace.
