Pardon my lack of hopefulness
by Scott Evans

Now I recognize what you have done
And the mark you leave when you go
It is there to remind me of what you’ve begun
And what you will once again sow

It’s right there, between where I used to keep
My sunny view and my feeling of peace
Now you stand in their place at the top of the heap
Leaving a lingering unease

Not everyone can tell you’re there
But, I know when you arrive
You will leave me bare
And away you’ll drive

So, if I’m a little sad or blue
At times when you might not expect me to
Be aware that these are scars I carry that
Remind me of what’s to come
So I’m a little bit wary
